Public Art Community Engagement Experiences
During my six-year tenure on the City of Lancaster Public Art Advisory Board I assisted in mangaging and creating experience to engage our community.
City Hall Gallery
A main hallway outside of our City Council Chambers was converted into a gallery and managed by the public art department in an effort to showcase creatives and aritsts in our community. I helped to manage communications with artists and receptions during First Fridays.
Community Engagement
The Public Art Office was charged with frequently developing community engagement opportunities to create a general public art awareness and advocacy, to gather data from our community related to public art projects, tabling at community festivals like Celebrate Lancaster, and engaing in temporary public art displays like the Inside/Out Project mural that was installed downtown in support of Dreamers and DACA.
Project Celebrations/Receptions
As board members we also helped to host events to celebrate the installation or creation of public art projects. This often involved inviting donors, press releases, community invitations, and supporting our public artists. Below are images from the celebration of the installation of Silent Symphony at the Lancaster Amtrak Station with artists Lyman and John Whitaker and the launch of the Lancaster Sound Map and Field Works album by artist Stuart Hyatt.
